The genesis of B.HOM Student Living came about naturally. Our clients expressed a growing desire to invest in the student housing market, and B.HOM Student Living had the operating platform to support this niche service. We married our long-standing platform with one of the most well-respected, singularly-focused, student housing leaders in the industry to develop what we believe is a specialized management team.

Melody King

Vice President of Operations

As a Senior Regional Vice President for BH and B.HOM Student Living, Melody manages an expansive portfolio of properties spanning across more than 20 states.

She specializes in overseeing properties that are renovating and repositioning. Currently, Melody is developing policies, implementing procedures and streamlining business practices for B.HOM, the student living portion of BH’s portfolio. Before her promotion to Senior Regional Vice President, she held the roles of Regional Vice President for the Southwest Region and Area Vice president for a large portfolio of units spanning North Central Texas, West Texas and Louisiana. Prior to joining BH in 2013, Melody had more than 20 years of property management experience with the most recent being with Westwood Residential, where she specialized in managing a diverse portfolio of value-add, lease-up and stabilized assets. She is currently serving as the New Room To Grow Ambassador for The Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation.

Vice President of Operations, B.HOM

Jonathan Jeans serves as Vice President of Operations for B.HOM Student Living and oversees the day-to-day operations, performance, and client services of our 28,000-bed portfolio at 30 different universities.

With over a decade of student housing leadership experience—Jonathan has been heavily involved with all aspects of property management, from strategic operations, performance management, technology efficiency, and business development among many other aspects. Through his many years in the industry, he has gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise that he continues to utilize and expand upon today to ensure the success of all B.HOM communities no matter the market or product type. Prior to his current role with B.HOM, he was Director of Technology & Support Operations at Pinnacle Campus Living and Director of Technology and Management Systems for Campus Evolution Villages.

Jonathan holds bachelor’s degrees in Public Relations and Political Science from Austin Peay State University. He currently residents in Dallas, Texas and outside of the office enjoys spending quality time with his family, pick-up basketball, and golfing.

Jacob Kosior serves as the Director of Customer Experience for B.HOM Student Living.

As part of his role with B.HOM, Jacob oversees the portfolio’s leasing and marketing efforts, including digital marketing, onsite marketing efforts, leasing initiatives, and vendor management. He has nearly 10 years of experience in the multifamily housing industry, including operations and new development lease-ups of affordable, market-rate conventional, and student housing assets.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Master’s in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Jeremy Cumbo is the National Director of Maintenance for B.HOM Student Living. He has worked in the student housing sector his whole career.

Jeremy began his career in property management as a leasing consultant where he quickly learned that leasing was not for him and that maintenance was his passion and the path he wanted to follow. His prior experience includes Peak Campus Management where he held many positions from onsite maintenance, national facilities, and construction management.

Jeremy graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business.

Jeremy Becks is a Corporate Level Residential Real Estate associate, specializing in operations, business development, leadership development, accounting/finance, and turnaround management of troubled assets with training development in the MultiFamily housing industry.

Jeremy has held several on-site and corporate support roles that have helped propel his career to the next level of property management with over ten years of experience Jeremy has a knack for turning around distressed or underperforming assets to help add value with capital renovation projects and increasing NOI through various channels. As an RPM with B.HOM he is excited to help support and assist communities to overachieve specific goals. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and all types of fitness activities.

Megan Dean is a Regional Manager for BH, overseeing and supporting all aspects of operations for her portfolio of properties that reside in Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

In her role, Megan serves as the liaison between client partners and BH Companies, managing all aspects of daily property operations including budget plans, financial reviews, HR functions, marketing, and customer satisfaction. In addition, Megan works closely with the BH Due Diligence team on all refinances, acquisitions, and dispositions in her region and has assisted with the successful execution of several new community lease ups and full property renovations. She joined BH in 2013 as a Community Manager and later served as a District Manager before being promoted to Regional Manager in 2014.

Megan’s previous experience includes nine years in the student housing industry, during which she earned her Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) through the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Megan attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Family Science and Educational Psychology.

Working her way up from a Leasing Consultant to Regional Manager over the last 30 years, Teresa joined the BH team in 2016 during the acquisition of what would soon become TAVA Waters.

Her uplifting and energetic personality has been a constant throughout the rollercoaster ride of revamping this 1,523-unit community into a luxury resort-style home where Coloradans can find respite from the bustling city of Denver.

Overseeing $30+ million of improvements over a 4-year period is a tremendous challenge not everyone would be willing to accept, but with Teresa’s unwavering leadership, the dream became a reality at TAVA.

Marta serves as a Regional Manager for B.HOM Student Living, overseeing the Northeast portfolio. She has 10+ years of experience working with both market-rate conventional and student assets.

Marta started her career as a R.A. at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Since then, she has held various leadership positions in operations, leasing, and marketing at both student and market-rate conventional properties. In each of her roles, Marta has worked to ensure efficiency within operational procedures and policies, profit and expense management, high leasing velocity, exceptional customer service and a heavy focus on team building and development. She has a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology from U of I and a Master’s in Business Administration from Keller School of Management.

Nikki has over 20 years of experience in the Property Management industry and is a Certified Apartment Manager.

She has worked with both 3rd Party and Owned assets helping to drive result-orientated success in her portfolio. Nikki has had success in repositioning properties through renovations and identifying operational issues, resolved using creative problem-solving techniques. Nikki has been involved with multiple dispositions and acquisitions and believes the details can make or break the sale. She is an advocate for continued growth and has completed CI 101 and CI 103 courses toward her CCIM Designation. She has also completed REFM Excel for Real Estate Certification level one, two, and three.

Niiki received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida.

Clay joins B.Hom Student Living as a Regional Manager for the West Coast Region.

Clay started his career as a Community Assistant while attending The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Since then, he has held various roles through multifamily and student living and served over 5 markets throughout the United States including new lease-ups. Clay has worked diligently to ensure daily operations are met to standards including successful leasing velocity, opening of new communities, budgeting, and team building. Before joining B.Hom Student Living, Clay served as a Senior Manager with a development company for the Arizona market.

Clay attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Pre Law and is certified as an HR Generalist.

Brittany started in student housing working for a small local company in Bloomington, Indiana. Her passion for leasing came in the most organic way; a one-on-one environment where she took prospects through the entire housing process. In this setting, she was there from the day a prospect walked in, to resident move-in day, and ultimately move-out day. It was this love of continuity and seeing the process through that has carried over into all roles that followed. Brittany has developed a thorough understanding and appreciation of an asset’s life cycle. Her most recent focus was on distressed assets, often in default. She has worked on more than 50 Receiverships and has facilitated the turnaround of a variety of asset classes.

Brittany has a strong background in property operations. Additionally, she has a personal history with deferred maintenance identification and management, as well as real estate tax appeals and placing insurance. Brittany is continuously working on expanding the company’s services and regions. She enjoys working with clients as well as educating and collaborating with those who share a mutual passion for student housing. Her assessment of market analysis assists in identifying distressed (micro and macro) markets and properties for potential new business with value-added opportunities. Her specialty in transitions allows for the successful on-boarding of new assets and ensures that each and every property starts off prepared for a profitable future. Brittany brings to the team a 360 approach to property management, allowing for thorough assessment and both a traditional and innovative style catered specifically to the client and property’s needs. In the last 10 years, Brittany has coordinated and overseen more than 20MM in Capital Expenditures, managed more than 300+ staff, and overseen divisions with 25,000 +/- beds.

Laney started in the multi-family industry in 2008 and moved into the student housing sector in 2010.

She has worked in one of the most difficult student housing markets in the country for over a decade. During that time she has built priceless relationships with fellow employees, vendors, and members of the student housing community. She has worked with Landmark Properties, Peak Campus, and Asset Living and also holds several awards for management and leadership. Laney believes in continual learning both for herself and the people she leads, continually working with each individual to ensure their success as people and employees. Laney has overseen 3 multi-million dollar renovations and is knows for energy and enthusiasm with her residents and staff alike.

Laney Pitman is a graduate of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi with a Bachelors’s in Business Administration and is a licensed Texas Realtor. She currently lives in College Station TX with her husband of 13 years and 4 daughters. She is a former Division 1 Volleyball Athlete and loves to run to help keep her mind and body sharp.

Josh started his career as a maintenance tech, working his way up to a maintenance supervisor, then to the role he has now, regional facilities manager.

Josh serves as a Regional Facilities Manager for B.HOM Student Living, supporting our onsite maintenance teams across the portfolio.

Harry Bookey

Harry Bookey, the Founder and Chairman of BH Equities and BH Management Services, oversees the corporate strategic planning and analysis of property positioning for both companies.

Since the founding of BH in 1993, Harry has been engaged full-time in all aspects of property acquisitions, asset management and property management. He has supervised BH’s growth from a small startup company to becoming the eighth largest multifamily management company and the 11th largest multifamily owner in the nation. Prior to forming BH, Harry served as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a national real estate development and syndication firm based in Des Moines. He has also practiced law, specializing in real estate and syndication work in two leading law firms in Des Moines. Harry earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

President

As President of BH Companies, Joanna Zabriskie has led BH to become one of the largest multifamily management and investment companies in the nation.

She joined BH in 2013 as Senior Vice President, focusing on new initiatives and special projects to improve the overall operating efficiency of the organization. In December 2014, Joanna was promoted to President and since then, BH and its joint venture partners have invested more than $1.18 billion of equity capital into multifamily assets. Prior to joining BH, her previous company co-invested with BH for many years as a sponsor/partner on multifamily acquisitions. Her roles included serving as the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Harbour Realty Partners, a company she co-founded to invest in multifamily properties and serving as Managing Director for Captec Financial Group. Joanna earned an undergraduate degree from Carleton College, a Masters in International Management and an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management

Andrew is a founding Principal of Timberline Ventures where he leverages his 25 years of hands-on real estate experience.

Widely regarded as an entrepreneurial and innovative thinker in the real estate industry, Andrew’s experience crosses many disciplines including, legal, finance, land development, construction, strategic planning and capital markets. Under Andrew’s leadership, he grew the Campus Evolution Villages brand to approximately 10,000 beds since his launching of the company in 2012. Campus Evolution was recognized as a leader in student housing and has gained ranking as a top 20 student housing owner by Student Housing Business.

Student housing is not new to Andrew, as Mr. Stark was instrumental in launching American Campus Communities (NASDAQ: ACC), an early student housing company, which later went on to be the first company in the sector to go public on a US stock exchange. Andrew and his partners brought the capital to ACC to acquire its first asset and then acquired the company, built-out the management team and provided all growth capital leading up to its IPO. This initial venture was successful in bringing creative thinking and capital to this student housing vehicle in a sector that was in its infancy.

Today Nathaniel serves as Executive Vice President of B.HOM Student Living, a part of the BH Management Services organization with more than 95,000 residential apartments under management.

With over 15 years of hands-on real estate, private equity and investment banking experience, Nathaniel has been a leader in all aspects of real estate analysis, acquisitions, asset management, capital raising and operations for high-net-worth and institutional investment partners. Nathaniel partnered with Andrew Stark in 2012 and launched Campus Evolution Villages growing the company from two employees to a top 20 student housing owner/operator with more than 250 employees across the country. Today Nathaniel serves as Executive Vice President of B.HOM Student Living, part of the Pinnacle organization with over 165,000 residential apartments under management.

Prior to launching Campus Evolution Villages, he worked in the Investment Banking group at Cantor Fitzgerald where he helped execute various strategic advisory transactions and capital raises for alternative investment funds, structured investment vehicles, traditional private placements, primary and secondary offerings as well as equity-linked, preferred, debt and mezzanine securities. Previously, he worked on the investment and asset management team for a value-add private equity fund at LaSalle Investment Management, where he helped acquire over $2 billion in real estate assets on behalf of institutional investors. Nathaniel graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
